Portrait of Helen Electrie Lindsay

About Helen E. Lindsay

Helen Electrie Lindsay was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. She graduated from Anatolia College in Thessaloniki and came to the United States on a Fulbright scholarship to study physics. She worked for Dayton Hudson and as an engineering product manager at MTS Systems in the Twin Cities. She is married with two children and lives in Wayzata, Minnesota.

Helen is the author of Written on the Knee: A Diary from the Greek-Italian Front of WWII — her translation of the wartime diary of her father, Dr. Theodore Electris, a doctor in the Greek army during the Greek-Italian war of 1940–41 — and of Maude, a 2026 memoir of her lifelong friendship with Maude Hart, begun on a freezing Dinkytown street in 1969.

She speaks regularly to community groups, historical societies and Hellenic organizations about the diary and Greece's role in the Second World War. See her past talks and appearances.
